Saint Kitts Saint Kitts

St Kitts and Nevis has long had a reputation as a sleepy Caribbean island, but this midday nap could soon be over. In Budget, Saint Kitt's and Nevis are two islands that are home to the second and third largest islands in the Caribbean, respectively. They are located between St. Christopher (real name St. Christopher) and St. Kitt's, which has been called under this nickname for more than 350 years, and Neviis (pronounced NEE - viss).

In the Caribbean, St. Kitts is the second largest island and the third largest in North America, behind New York and New Jersey.

The 170-kilometre-long square island is west of Antigua and looks like a rainforest - wooded emerald patches in the sky, while the two islands of St Kitts and Nevis form. The east coast is on the Atlantic Ocean, and the west side of the island borders the Caribbean Sea. The summit of the two islands is Mount Liamuiga, located in Saint Kitts and 1156 meters high.

St Kitts and Nevis are separated by a channel known as Narrows, and the surrounding coral reefs lie within this channel.

The largest of the two islands is roughly oval, with a long, narrow peninsula to the southeast. Saint Kitts largest island borders Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Martin, the largest of the three islands of Saint Lucia.

The population is estimated at forty-four thousand, with a population density of about 1,000 people per square kilometre. Other major settlements are Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Martin, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Basseterre is a port that deals with tourism, and the largest is the deep-water port of Basseterres, which is one of the most important ports in the Caribbean and an important tourist destination. Both islands have international airports; Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport is located in St. Kitts and Vance Amory International Airport on Nevis. Since the end of the Second World War, the island has had no international airport, with the opening of St. Vincent & the Grenadines Airport in 1961.

Items not permitted from regular international mail are prohibited in Priority Mail and Express International, but items such as correspondence, business papers and goods, including food, clothing, household items and other personal items are accepted in Priority Mail Express and International.

A ship may be considered to be registered under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, provided that it is owned by a natural person, company or entity from Neviis. A buyer who has passed the state's due diligence and made a minimum investment of $400,000 to qualify for a state-approved property is eligible to apply for citizenship of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. He also has the right to settle in a private residence such as a hotel, hotel room, apartment or apartment complex.

Besides its natural treasures, Saint Kitts has a rich culture and heritage, influenced by the diverse backgrounds of its inhabitants, rooted in the island's history, culture, religion, art and crafts. English settlers sailed there from Antigua, Barbuda, Tortola and Montserrat, the French sent colonists and settled in Martinique, Guadeloupe and the archipelago of Saint Barthélemy. Its strategic location made it an attractive destination for European nations fighting for power in the West Indies. The British settled the islands of Antwerp, Montserrat, Anguilla and Tortola on Stitts and it became known as the "mother colony" of all the West Indies, according to the US Navy.

The city of Basseterre in St. Kitts is the capital of the island and the second largest city in the West Indies after Antwerp. British dependence on Anguilla was also historically part of a union then collectively known as Saint Christopher, Nevis and Angola. The former is the most frequently used, but the latter is generally used for diplomatic relations, and today both are designated states in the Constitution. While St. Kitts and Neviis waited until 1983 for independence, the Anguillians vented their displeasure by separating and making the Union known.

Christopher Columbus named the island after St. Christopher, the patron saint of travellers, and the name was eventually shortened to St. Kitts. British settlers shortened the name to "Saintitts" in the early 17th century. Columbus originally named this large island after his patron saints, St. Christopher and Columbus.

Sebastian was replaced as Managing Director of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Park Authority (STNPA) by his brother-in-law and former Managing Director, Dr. John D'Alessandro.

The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis is an independent member of the Commonwealth and, unlike the associated states of Great Britain, has governed itself by forming its own government.
